Parent Involvement
Parental Involvement and the development of healthy relationships between parents and children is a huge component of the overall success of the student. First, parents are involved in creating the academic and social skill development work plan for their child. In addition, parents are encouraged to sit in on their child’s tutoring and/or homework assistance session so that they can become more actively involved in supporting the child’s performance. Second, SECY has developed a series of adult training programs for parents, foster parents, and teachers. These six-week workshops are designed to improve parenting and teaching skills aimed at building children’s self-esteem and the adult’s confidence in interacting with children. These classes, taught by SECY’s Executive Director Vivian Taylor, have provided training for about 300 adults over the past year.
These trainings include:
•Parental Stress
•Discipline and Guidance
•Parent-Teacher Relations
•Kids Get Stressed Out Too
•Ages and Stages of Development
•And many more!
