Our Philosophy
SECY’s comprehensive program focuses on four major goals for the development of children: Education, Character Development, Parent-Child Relations, and Recreation. Our approach to tutoring and educational advancement has resulted in major successes for our students. We have seen as much as a two to six month improvement in students’ reading and math scores on Chicago Public School’s Basic Skills Test within one school year. Over half of our children that were once performing below grade level are now doing well and even begun to help tutor other students at SECY. Through the efforts of our staff, volunteers, community investors and donors, SECY is one of the major service providers for Roseland and West Pullman. We currently serve children from nine community elementary schools and three high schools. In 2007, SECY provided services to over 300 low-income youth and their families.
