Vivian Taylor: Someone you should know
Our Executive Director, Vivian Taylor, gained her professional experience in education through a number of positions. She served as Head Teacher and Family Service Coordinator for the South Side YMCA’s pre-school and school-age program, and was also a teacher assistant for the Chicago Public schools for more than six years. Ms. Taylor was elected to the first Local School Council (LSC) for Schmid Grammar School, and was appointed to the Education Task Force, which was formed to provide parent training on school reform and the process for establishing LSCs across the city. This extensive work experience in the field, together with her concern about the academic struggles of numerous children led Ms. Taylor to create Southside Educational Center for Youth.
Over the past ten years, SECY has received much recognition acknowledging its commitment to youth, education, and character building. Recognitions include being highlighted in the Chicago Community Trust Annual Report, and on ABC 7 Harry Porterfield’s “Someone You Should Know.”
